A fire broke out at the Holcim US cement plant in Whitehall Township, Tuesday afternoon, promoting a response from area firefighters, LehighValleyNews.com reported.

An electrician spotted flames in the plant’s alternative fuels system at about 4:15 p.m., a company spokesperson told the local news outlet. A fire suppression system activated, containing the flames until firefighters arrived and fully extinguished the fire.

No injuries were recorded during the incident. Holcim US said in the report that an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway and the company is working to assess damages.

The Whitehall plant has a headcount of about 80 workers and manufactures 14 types of cement, according to a company fact sheet on the location. Opened in 1899, Holcim states that the facility is “one of the oldest operating cement plants in the US.”
